Altiplano Plate
The Altiplano Plate underlies the high Altiplano plateau in the central Andes, one of the most extensive high plateaus on Earth outside of Tibet. This microplate formed in response to the complex deformation caused by the Nazca Plate's flat-slab subduction beneath South America. The resulting plateau sits at an average elevation of 3,750 meters and hosts unique volcanic features and mineral deposits.
