Banda Sea Plate

The Banda Sea Plate occupies a unique position in eastern Indonesia, trapped within a horseshoe of active subduction zones. This creates an unusual situation where oceanic crust is being consumed on nearly all sides. The complex tectonics have produced the deep Banda Sea basin and contribute to the region's prolific volcanic activity, including the famous Banda arc volcanoes.
