Galapagos Plate

The Galapagos Plate is a tiny microplate situated at a rare triple junction where the Nazca, Cocos, and Pacific plates meet. This unique tectonic setting has created the Galapagos hotspot, responsible for the famous Galapagos Islands - a living laboratory of evolution. The volcanic islands are progressively younger from east to west, recording the plate's movement over the stationary mantle plume beneath.
